Goldman Electrical Contracting, Inc. was founded in 2001 by Bill
and Melanie Goldman. Bill, a master electrician, is the third
generation of a family committed to craftsmanship and union
construction. Melanie, a graduate of Butler University, is the third
generation of a family of business entrepreneurs. Operating from a
modest home office in their garage, and a single service van, the
company was off and running.
Goldman quickly established a reputation for quality work and
dependable service in the residential market. Looking to expand, the
company ventured into electrical maintenance.
In 2005, Goldman was hired by Indianapolis Public Schools to provide
maintenance services for their multiple schools and other
facilities. Quality work and dependable service resulted in IPS
renewing this contract every year.
By 2006, Goldman had transitioned from a residential “mom and pop”
operation, to an accomplished electrical contractor capable of
executing various projects of scale. Commercial projects now
constituted the majority of their work.
Melanie recognized the lack of qualified WBE (Women Business Owned)
contractors capable of self-performing work in Central Indiana. She
worked to achieve WBE Certification status with the City of
Indianapolis and State of Indiana for the company.
In 2009, having outgrown their office and warehouse space, Goldman
moved to their present location on 2313 East Washington Street.
